This is a very powerful image of the Tiananmen Square events because it depicts the sense of reality of the events that took place on June 4, 1989. It shows us that even though the protests were peaceful, the results were quite the opposite. |

Exploration 4 - Hunter Burnett
What really struck me to be very important in remembering and learning about these events was the number of young adults and protesters that were murdered and arrested on June 4, 1989. There was said to have been over 10,000 arrests and around 1,000 deaths. Another thing that struck me as being very important to remember was that the then Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, was said to have been disappointed and looked down on the actions of China.

I too think it's ludicrous the amount of people they killed for doing nothing. I think that they had way better and less lethal options to deal with what was happening. I think it's absurd that a government would go straight to lethal weapons to clear a crown full of innocent people.
ReplyDeleteI find it ironic how the Russians, who were close allies of China, disapproved of the actions they took at Tianenmen Square. It was truly a universal uproar of how many innocent people were killed for almost no reason at all.
ReplyDeleteI really like your first photo. Like you said these people are willing to risk there lives to make a better life for not only themselves but there children. This takes a ton of courage to stand up for what you believe in in this country. I cant imagine doing it where you might get shot for saying it.
ReplyDeleteI like how you included a picture of the riots from this year. It really ties in to what happened in 1989. It's as if history is repeating itself. I also found it interesting to read that Mikhail Gorbachev, a communist of the Soviet Union, didn't like what happened in 1989 in China. Good photos!
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that the Soviet leader was disappointed with the actions of China. I think it crazy that they ran over people with tanks and shot and killed their people.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy to think that atleast 1,000 people, mostly students died through this. It's awful to think about the families who lost a son or daughter because they were peacefully protesting. You'd think the soldiers wouldn't have gone straight to killing, especially those who weren't attacking them.
