Exploration four : Jacob Keller

Part One:

What is very important to remember about the Tiananmen Square massacre was that it had actually happened and hundreds if not thousands of students lost their lives to Chinese military forces.  The reason why I think that it is important to remember the event is because the way that the Chinese government operates they have tried and mostly achieved the goal of trying to cover it up and make the people believe it never happened.  What can be learned about this event is that hundreds of young people our age had the courage to stand up to such an oppressive government and that even with the governments best attempts at a cover up people today still find sources to help remember the student protesters so that they may not be forgotten.

Part Two:
Here we see Hong Kong protesters laying in the streets.  What is unique about this picture is that if you had not know the context of which it was taken in you  could almost say they were hanging about for a concert.

Here we see Chinese soldiers facing the student protesters in Tiananmen square.  This photo is powerful because it is a unique moment when soldiers and students are peacefully there before the death and despair ensue.

  1. Jacob, I really like your comment in your history part that talks about how the Chinese government tries to hide the fact that the events in Tiananmen Square. I agree with you because in my opinion, I see why they would because I believe our government also doesn't tell us everything. Politics has a huge role in the government standings. Good Job!

  2. I really like the picture you put up with the Hong Kong protesters. It is clear to see that they are acting very peacefully, and the Chinese government once again handles this situation in the wrong manner by threatening lives.

  3. I like how you said that the most important thing to remember is that the event really did happen. when i was doing my research I never thought about that perspective because i have known that it was real and that people where killed. I think that it is especially important for the people of china to remember what the government did.

  4. I really liked your second picture Jacob and don't remember seeing that when I was researching. It speaks volumes and lets you realize how serious the situation was.

  5. I think that a lot of the people that were in your first picture were hanging out. If people that support the cause will probably get their friends involved in some way as well whether it's by having them actively participate or passively.

  6. The second image stood out to me because it was a true representation of the two sides of this story. The line here is literally the line between the innocent and those who prosecuted them. The picture represents the story perfectly as the battle between what is right and what is not.

  7. Jacob,
I absolutely love you first picture, and how you put that if you didn't know the context you would think that they were all just hanging out. That is so true, if you did not put that caption there then I honestly would have never known the difference.
