The thing that struck me the most was that "The Tank Man" is still anonymous. Almost everyone has seen the iconic picture of the man standing right in the way of the tanks, but no one knows who the man is. How could no one know this man if he was seen in this one picture that about every person who has ever taken a history course has seen? I also thought that it was very ironic that the square where this happened was named "gates of heavenly peace" (Tiananmen), so many terrible things happen in that square that no way relates to a "heavenly peace". I just can't help but find it ironic that this place was called the "gates of heavenly peace" where there was no heavenly peace at all, there was a massacre.
Part Two:
Bodies stacked on bodies. I think that this picture just shows how horrible and terrifying this massacre really was. People were just piling bodies on bodies because they didn't know what to do with all the dead people. This photo is very effective because you actually see that people where killed and just thrown aside.
Student begs a soldier to stop attacking the students. This just shows that the students did not want to fight and di dnot want the massacre that happened. This also shows how the soldiers didn't listen and kill a huge amount of people.
I really like how you showed the irony between the events of Tiananmen Square and the actual definition of the word. I also agree with you on your point of how strange it is that nobody knows who the tank man is to this day. You would think that such an iconic figure would be recognized. But maybe this goes hand in hand with trying to conceal the events of Tiananmen Square.
