Exploration of own design: Zach Powell

I believe my best writing was when we did a personal narrative writing assignment. I wrote about i screwed up my first semester in college and it sent me wake up call that I need to change my ways in order to survive in engineering and college. I explained how I had used what I learned first semester, to change how I treated schoolwork and how I recovered. I picked my closing paragraph because I feel like it expresses the jest of the paper showing how this experience has changed me for the better.

“I was taken off academic probation after my second semester. I vowed to never let myself be who I was first semester. Looking back on first semester, I wish I could do things differently, knowing the things I know now. Even though I am mad at myself for how first semester turned out, it’s given me the motivation to push me to never go back. My wakeup call is that college isn’t the place to mess around - it’s a place for building the foundation for your future.  I’m learning to push my limits and expand beyond my comfort zone knowing that my abilities have grown as well. I feel comfortable taking a larger class load now in large part because I know how to manage my time and additional classes. I’ve become less social compared to first semester but I know it’s what I need to do to be successful. I’ve learned if I dedicate myself to achieving a goal and I give it my all to do so, that I will most likely succeed.”
