Exploration Two by Michael Trawinski

Hello. My name is Michael Trawinski. I am looking forward to working with all of you this semester. I am a very calm and gentle person, but once you get to know me I will talk more. I like movies and music. My favorite movies include Back to the Future, Harry Potter, and Sweeney Todd. My favorite kind of music is celtic. I also like older music, mainly the Beatles. I have also played trumpet in the high school band. During my junior year, the band and orchestra went to Disney World to perform in a concert. We also went to Universal, so I got to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
I did some research about Frederick Douglass and found that after slavery he became the first black citizen to have a high U.S. government rank. As a slave he learned to read and write from white children and other people after his master's wife was forbidden to give him lessons. He also taught other slaves to read the New Testament. He became an abolitionist after slavery and supported women's rights as well as wrote books. It is interesting to that after slavery Frederick Douglass had a very successful career for the rest of his life.
Out of the three poems that I read, my favorite one was Bury Me in a Free Land by Frances E. W. Harper. I liked the poem mostly because of the title. I noticed that the poem's language stood out by talking about how slaves should die as free people and not as slaves. This poem to me seems to be a testament for racial equality.

A book series that I have read has been the Warriors series. The series focuses on four clans of cats who live in a forest. They hunt for their food and fight other clans. This writing impacted me because of its astrology and how the clans have ceremonies that are connected with the astrology. I feel that the writing is important to me because now I like to read a piece of writing that takes place in a forest. Forests are a part of nature and I feel like walking through one and quietly listening to the sounds there are. I also like to think about my own culture where I do not live in a forest or pay attention to astrology but I think that it would be interesting to live in a place that has those beliefs about life. Every time I read these books, I feel like I am part of the story and a part of the culture and the beliefs which are held within the clans of the books.

  1. Michael, one of my favorite series of movies is Harry Potter too. If you have not read the books I suggest you do. The books for me were even better. The way she writes makes you feel like part of the story and you never want to stop reading! One other thing, I also played trumpet in High School and I got to go to Cedar Point my Senior year. Those trips are the best!

  2. I played the trumpet through 5th-8th grade year! It's my favorite instrument! I really love music and movies too! I also really love the Harry Potter movies! The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire are my absolute favorite. I always look for the Harry Potter marathon on ABC family to come on.

  3. Michael, I was also in band in highschool! I was in our school's drum line and that was so much fun. My freshman and senior year we went to disney and got to play in the magic kingdom electric parade! That was one of the coolest experiences in my life. I wish you luck in your future and look forward to class with you this year.

  4. I agree with what you said about Fredrick Douglass. He is someone the never gave up on what he believed and ended up being one of the best know and most important black people in history. he defied the odds and got an education and became high up in the US government.
