Hello, my name is Mason Metcalf. My fun fact was that I have played piano for 15 years. I have two younger siblings that are 17 and 15 years old. I went to Elgin High School in Marion Ohio. I did many things while I was there including Football, Basketball and Baseball. I also played piano for show choir my Junior and Senior year. I have torn my A.C.L three times playing sports and had to have three knee surgeries to fix them. I live about 25 minutes outside of Marion in a tiny town called New Bloomington. My goal is to receive a degree in Entomology, I then plan on continuing my education and getting my doctorate in Entomology. Entomology is the study of insects. My main hobby is collecting insects and identifying them.
I chose to research the Poet Tim Seibles. Tim was born in 1955 which I find important. I find this important because he is able to connect to the younger generation. Older poets, at least for me, do not write the same as poets that are younger. I also related to many of his poems because of the football references. This is my my favorite part about Tim. I can feel his feelings and connect with him. He is just a normal man living life and expressing it.

The Poem I chose to read was a new one to me. It is called For Brothers Everywhere and is written by Tim Seibles. In this Poem my favorite part is when he talks about shooting the basketball. He explains the feeling of shooting it with great detail. I have felt the feelings he talks about and his words hit home to me. I also enjoy his language and how he writes. I enjoy the "freshness" he brings. He uses words like "running-gunning" and "body-boppin" which not many poets seem to use. Since I have only read a couple of his poems I don't know if his language is always like that. I look forward to learning more about Tim and also about poetry in general since I am fairly new to it.
There are many literacy events that have effected my life, but by far one stands out. This literacy event has effected millions of people throughout the years. The book I am talking about is the Bible. The Bible has changed my life from the first time I started reading it. The Bible has made me the person I am today. It has changed how I act and most importantly how I am with others. It is the foundation for how I live my life. The Bible is a very positive literacy event in my life and will continue to be forever.
The most interesting part about your post, to me, was that you have torn your ACL three times. That sounds extremely painful and I am sorry about your luck. I also played football, and I wish you the best of luck in your future career plan.
ReplyDeleteI also had my life changed by the Bible. I have read it probably about 2 or 3 times (1 chapter a night), and it has changed how I think about everything. I learned to trust in the Lord and grow in my relationship with him. I also learned tolerance of others because we are all his children, so we all deserve to be treated well. I identify with you because the Bible has played a big role in helping me understand who I am and what I believe.
ReplyDeleteHi Mason, I have always admired the piano and its apparent simplicity but that it is so incredibly hard to be good at. My uncle is a professional pianist and I am absolutely mesmerized when he plays. I am sure you have the same effect when you play.
