Exploration Two: Hunter Burnett

1) My name is Hunter Burnett. I am from Milford Center, OH and I am eighteen years old. My major at OSUM is Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries. With this degree, I plan to become a Game Warden. In order to get this degree, I have to transfer to main campus after either one or two years from Marion. In high school, as my fun fact said, I played many sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and I ran track. Also, I enjoy fishing, hunting, and just being outdoors.

2) The author I chose to do research about was Frederick Douglas, a human rights leader in the abolition movement. The fact that I found most interesting about Frederick Douglas was that he was the first black citizen to hold a high U.S. government rank. Douglas was former slave in Maryland around 1818. He learned to read and write when he was sent to Baltimore. His master's wife taught him the alphabet when he was about 12 years old. Which is waht inspired him to teach other slaves how to read and write.

3) The poems we read for this class were very well written. These poems were well written for one main reason. The reason for them being so well structured and written was because slaves should have not been able to read and write and articulate things like the rich white people of the time. If the black authors would have not written it so literately correct, then some people, especially the rich whites, would not have taken their writing seriously at all.

4) I literacy event that occurs for me would be every time I read anything from ESPN the magazine. Such as, if I read an inspiring story about how a walk on became a major part of a sports team, that makes me want to walk on to a college team for football. Or if I read a story about how a big time professional athlete always volunteers their time to go and help in a soup kitchen or visit cancer patients, then that makes me also want to participate in helping others.

  2. I think it's pretty cool that you're majoring in Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries! That's a really unique major and it seems like you'd do well in that. I also plan on transferring to main campus!

  3. I am also majoring in a animal related field. How long have you wanted to become a game warden and do you know what area you would like to work in?

  4. I agree with you about reading ESPN articles! There always seem to be either inspirational stories or just even stories that are touching about a certain athlete or even a whole team in general. I think it would be really neat to actually go behind the scenes of a up-coming stories their working on!
